During the early part of the 19th century, camellias were one of the most prominent plants in the southern garden. Somewhere along this journey, Camellias lost their place in our gardens and landscapes and were very quickly replaced by other shrubs and trees with much less to offer. Their graceful southern charm has been overlooked time and time again because of our quest to find something "better".  In fact, there are few plants that are "better" or offer the many diversified characteristics that the Camellia has to offer.

The Southeastern Camellia Society, Inc was formed in 1999 with a vision that camellias would once again be a large part of our gardens and landscapes.  Through education and information provided to gardeners and by encouraging planting of camellias in public and private gardens, we feel that we are well on our way to once again bring the camellia back to the forefront of our gardens.

Membership in this society will not only provide you with valuable information on growing camellias, but will allow you to be a part of the Camellia Renaissance that is sweeping through our gardens across the country.
