CAMELLIA SPECIES

There are over 250 species of camellia besides the most known, Camellia japonica and sasanqua.  This collection of Camellia species is one of a kind.  We hope you will enjoy seeing the many different types of camellias

COLD HARDY CAMELLIAS

For the most southern region, we treat these cold hardy camellias like sasanqua and early blooming types.  Typically these cold hardy camellias can tolerate the freezing temperatures of colder climates better than your average camellias

GREEN NURSERY GALLERY

This collection of camellias comes from Green's Nursery in Fairhope Alabama.

HYBRIDS

Hybrid camellias are camellias with two or more species in their parentage.  Some of the most  beautiful camellias with characteristics from both parents come from these hybrid crosses.

IDENTIFYING CAMELLIA PROBLEMS

We've tried to collect some images of camellia pests, diseases and problems to help you identify ailments of your own camellias.

JAPONICA

The most common species, Camellia japonica boasts some of the most beautiful flowers among all of the camellia species today.

SASANQUA & SASANQUA HYBRIDS

Sasanqua also means "sun" in Japan.  Typically these fall blooming camellias can tolerate more sun than most camellias. But despite common mis-conception,  all Sasanquas are camellias but not all camellias are sasanquas!

 THE TEA PLANT-Camellia Sinensis

The oldest known camellia in existence it Camellia sinensis, or better known as the Tea Plant.  Yes,  the tea we all enjoy as a beverage in our favorite restaurants and homes comes from this remarkable plant.
